nice weather we're having, ain't it?

Well, so this week has pretty much been a wash, both literally and figuratively. It's been VERY cold for North Carolina this week, with lows reaching into the teens some nights. Most everyone's hands are all scaly and chapped. Schools are delayed this morning due to the freezing rain last night. In a nutshell, this is what winter is supposed to be like!

As far as my little AvantGo problem last week, I still have absolultely no answers. But I do have one solution to my web host, as I found a good local one this week. The thing is, they have never tested my AvantGo directory on an ACTUAL HANDHELD DEVICE. When I told them that AvantGo was essentially "just another browser, only subscription-based," they still did nothing. They performed a couple of fixes on my site that they thought needed doing, but would write back to say, "okay, fixed!" when in reality it was not.

If they had just done everything they could (including testing it on a handheld device), and then just told me, "you know what, we have no clue. Sorry," I would have been a lot happier with them. But between the tech support guy who couldn't understand anything I said, to their incorrect "fixes", I will be moving my domain in the next couple of days. Hopefully, we won't experience any downtime. If we do, it won't be for long. I'm also hoping that this gets my AvantGo channel back up.

Speaking of, AvantGo doesn't have any answers, either. They're having problems with a few channels, though, so at least they're looking at it.

Al-RIGHT, then. Enough gabbling about all that crap. Let's talk about my new cellphone! I've kind of resisted getting a full-on cellphone plan up to now. When I lived in Chicago, I finally bought one for my safety and hardly ever used it (a good thing.) It was just a local analog jobbie, perfect for dialing 911 in a jiffy if I witnessed a wreck (which I did -- twice.) But now, either vanity has set in, or I'm actually starting to see more practical reasons for having one. So I got this new BellSouth digital thing with a four-state service area, free long-distance weekends, and lots of fancy doodads on the digital readout. And it's really, really small. Like, Wilma chew toy small. I hope I don't get it lodged between my toes.

Rest assured, however, that I always hang up before I drive, and pull over before I dial. I promise not to talk in crowded restaurants, movie theatres, or elevators. And I vow to keep my private life...private, at least while you're listening. Sound fair? Okay. I guess that means I get to keep the phone.

In other news, I'm going to New York City this weekend. If you like, look for me at CBGB's on Sunday night at 7:00. It'll be a hoot! We'll imbibe. We'll talk about the weather. We'll think of a good hiding place for when George Bush really screws up good.

Gotta answer my cellphone. Toodly.
