| 14 may 2001 | today is mom's birthday! Yep, Mom gets a double holiday many years, what with Mothers' Day falling on or near her birthday each year. And this particular year, she wanted to take a trip--namely, a trip with Kelli and me. Now, if Kelli had chosen our destination, we would end up somewhere very very warm, where sarong-wrapped people bring us pretty drinks and direct us to the volleyball pit. If it were up to me, exploring Greenland! (Mom and Kelli are glad it's not up to me.) This is Mom's birthday. Today, we're off to Vegas. Mom really likes going to Las Vegas. So much, in fact, that our hotel rooms have been completely comped, thanks to her previous visits. We're staying first at Circus Circus, and then at the Venetian , which Mom says is e-nor-mous. I've only passed through Las Vegas myself, and this will be the first time I partake in the festivities. All of them, that is, but the gambling part. Uh-uh. Don't get all wound up there and think, "yeah, right, come on! Try the slots! Just a little bit!". I've played slots. I've made an adequate donation to Feed the Slots. For the price of about 90 cups of coffee, I've fed a deserving slot machine. That was enough for me. The only difference between those things and a regular trash can, is that the casino puts lights and bells and blinky things on these. What will I be doing? I have no idea. I definitely want to see one of those flashy shows. Bumping into Wayne Newton or Liza Minelli would be cool, too. Or maybe I'll pet one of those white tigers. Mom assured Kelli and me that we'd be eating a lot...then we'd eat some more. Like, all-you-can-eat EVERYTHING for 1.99. Alright! I will, of course, be wearing my Casio wrist camera, and carrying my Aiptek PenCam. So you know what that means, kids--the Elvis Impersonators Gallery extraordinaire! I'll do my best to get photographed with as many impersonators as possible. Maybe I can get Kelli to pose with one in a wedding chapel. So on Wednesday, look for my first Vegas installment. I'm not sure if I'll post tomorrow or not, being as I'm partial to jetlag and all that. And I want to spend time with Mom and stuff. Okay, off to Vegas! Happy birthday, Mom! |
