| 27 march 2001 New lid is up! Go get your poetry fix. | is mercury in retrograde or something? This isn't quite what I expected with Spring Fever. I keep expecting Puck and the rest of his Midsummer pals to pop out of the woodwork and say, "I was just kidding. Back to work. Nothing to see here." First, Mom had a pretty nice visit, once she was able to get here. Unfortunately, her arrival flight got off to a false start from Cincinnatti--ten minutes into the air, the plane started fishtailing and had return to Cinci for an emergency landing. Not one to be deterred, Mom got onto another aircraft and made it here safely, though a bit shaken over the morning's events. Then, on the morning of her departure, her airline went on strike. Which meant that they re-routed her to the worst flight segments imaginable, during peak times and with a layover in Atlanta. No way! So we called Delta and got her on a direct later that evening. She made it home safe and sound, with nary an air scare to be had. And we wonder why Americans hate to fly anymore. Go figure, and pass my emergency flight flask. If that wasn't enough, it's winter again. I think today's high will get up to 45 degrees. Between the erratic seasons and the pollen, I've had these little baggies under my eyes for about two weeks. It is most attractive, especially with the cluster of hives on my chin and the wheezing. It is the perfect time of year to set me up on a blind date, just for grins. Hi, I'm Kim. Amy gave me your number. **AAPPBBLL-CHOOO!!** ...No, I swear, my eyes are twice this size. Poor Mom caught either a cold, or a painful sinus infection. We were a-looking swell for those nights on the town, oh yes. Once we both get our eyes open and heads cleared, I'm sure that all these springtime flowers are going to look swell. If you need a topper, I say we all toast our the upcoming recession. Coincidentally, Jason was laid off from his job last week, while one of my dear friends received a letter stating that the firm would not raise her rate. (She is a contract programmer, and a good one at that.) Our friend who sits next to her was laid off from the consulting firm, but because he's so good was retained onsite. Ultimately, nearly everyone who received these letters simply didn't show up for work yesterday, and I have to say good on them . As for me, this is my last week on the current contract for awhile, but I'm looking forward to the break. I have some super-swell travel plans that include (Hey, Jiri!) Connecticut, where I'm featuring on April 20. As for the other places I'm going, you'll just have to wait and see where I end up. And as for Wilma, she has yet another minion under her spell. Mom is still trying to figure out how Wilma cups her paw under running water and drinks it. And why she talks back to us. And why she insists on drinking water out of my glass instead of her bowl. Thanks to Sonny in Florida, I may soon be able to read Wilma's mind! He sent me book on how to do so. I'll let you know what I learn. |
