new review! And this one's a whole meal. A really, really good one.

feet kicked up

It's been a nice week. Just a plain old nice week. I needed that.

Ever since I returned to Winston, I've spent the past few months on the go. Between my job, settling in, and reclaiming the feeling of "home" that was lost for about three years; I've been kind of busy. Making your home takes a lot of time and energy.

I finally got to a point where I feel like I really live here now. All of my paintings and photos are on the walls, a little bit of dust has settled into the corners, and I can find stuff in the dark. I'm a regular at various places again, the coffeehouses know how I like my brew, and the pizza guys fully understand "so many onions it makes you sick to look at it".

Kimmy's back in town.

But I've also done some new stuff this week. Like I won a dart game! Yee! He was sort of mad that I made him play blindfolded, but still--I won! Yay, me!

Okay, I'm kidding. He chose to play blindfolded.

Then, I had the opportunity to eat at a fairly legendary restaurant here in town, Bell Brothers Cafeteria. The thing is, I was going to review it. But in good conscience, either I need to eat there again, or the place needs a Surgeon General Warning painted on the wall. Warning: you may never see your feet again. Okay, eat up!

Bell Brothers has a lot going for it, without a doubt. Where else can you walk away with a heaping plate of homemade food for five dollars? And that includes sweet tea! Right on! The drawback is that you have to be really hungry. Like, you just got back from hiking Outer Mongolia and have eaten nothing but your backpack hungry.

I was just normal hungry. Since I left four days ago, I have to say that I've been pretty satisfied.

Eating at Bell Brothers doesn't take much effort. Got a straw? Dinner is served! Aside from the meats and fried fish, each vat of food was the consistency of wet cement. Which was pretty cool--who knew that a stainless steel serving spoon could stand upright in stuffing? Or macaroni and cheese? Or gravy?

Yeah, I was ready for naptime after that dinner. Like, for a few days. Think Kim Van Winkle, buried under a pile of mashed potatoes.

I suppose that weeks devoid of any serious drama don't make for such great writing. I'm sure that things will pick up at some point, but it sure is nice to get a break. It also looks as though I might have some free time coming up in April, and I'm thinking about taking a little juant. The Netherlands sounds pretty intriguing right now, as Robert has told me that they're the European Culture Capital this year. Hey, Robert! How's the weather in April?

It's March already, and I'm sneezing. Aah, spring. Flowers will be here in no time, with tulips the size of cereal bowls. Yep, a nice week.
