| the blinky blinky cha cha Does anyone know where I can get some cord cozies? Furthermore, am I at risk of UV damage from all these new blinking lights in my Den? Well, AM I?!? So my mouse decided to go kaput on me yesterday. Urk. Which sent me to the store for new mouse, which then got me to thinking..."I should really network the place. Yep, that's what I'll do." Now, keep in mind that this involves skills that I don't really have, or at least I didn't think I had, but turns out that most knuckleheads can acquire in, like, a half hour. Because I'm telling you that if I can do this, anyone can. There I am in the store, a girl. A girl carrying two hubs and a wireless mouse and a bunch of cables. My name is Kim, and I am a nerd magnet, as evidenced by the funky black-haired translucent guy who followed me around the store. He had that processor-fan windswept look, fresh from his ten-hour shift in someone's server room. Oh, baby! Commence with the astigmatism rumba. Anyway. So I get everything home, dump it on the floor, and figure all this stuff out in less than two hours. I'm pretty satisfied with everything, toes are a-wiggling, lights are a-blinking, nothing is a-crashing. Put your right foot in and shake it all about. Get down. I reboot, and everything is...connected. And faster. So...many...lights. I've got a damn constellation in here. Kimberleaus Borealis. Right on. Oh, but it gets better. Mr. Road Runner is going to beep beep himself over here next Thursday and make me a luddite no more. The cable people sent me this couldn't-pass-up deal, especially now that I've got two new web projects and this whole aspiring Java jockey thing going on. Well, that, and all the MP3s I can cram in here. Did I tell you I found some old Slayer albums? GWAR, too. I've never had neighbors complain about me or my noise. Perhaps I should add this to my "to do" list. Hey, play rehearsals start on Saturday! I'll have press info up after Labor Day, and it looks like we're just going to do one weekend due to blackout restrictions during this citywide arts-fest. This is good news, but get your tickets early when you get the info. Later. |
