| does anyone know any good 'moving away' songs? Well. Here I am again. I don't think I've been away from the site for quite this long before. You think I'd have a bunch to say, huh. Nah. Not really. I mean, yeah, I totally have a lot to say about the past week-and-a-half. It was fabulous--I've been at North Carolina's finest writer's workshop, and then in Charleston, SC, for a few days. Total vacation mode, baby. So lemme get my thoughts together, kiss on Wilma and Harry, tell you about my vacation, and then tell you about me moving, maybe. Now, me and moving have been intimately acquainted for most of my life, and you guys know how much I love Winston-Salem. But the pollution and humidity here have reached critical mass where my asthma is concerned, and it's time for me to scram. It's taken me some time, and convincing by family and friends for me to get the idea, but I've now resolved to make a therapeutic move. Which, in my case, means no more southeastern cities, and definitely nowhere south of where I currently live. Doesn't that suck? I've heard all sorts of different stories as to what's going on this year. I mean, last summer was bad, but it wasn't nearly as crippling as this one. That's no exaggeration, either. Like, everyone is doing some sort of wheezing, getting tightness in their chest, and not exercising during daylight hours. Its abominable. Spending the past week in the mountains, where I was able to RUN all week at 2:00 in the afternoon, was the last straw. Until Winston-Salem does something effective about this crapola environment, I'm out of here with much sadness. Which will also lead me into a fun-filled discussion of the whole teaching situation. Which is, thanks to state budget cuts and general local incompetence, a rather lively story, as well. Everything is good. It's super-good, in fact. Just need to make a few adjustments, so put down your seat trays and get a snack. It's going to be an interesting week. Until tomorrow...or maybe just later today. |
