mall recliners. because the mall makes you tired.

rainy, cold weekend. solution: margaritas.

First news first. You remember Danny (of Coolstrip fame)? My tape-eating friend? He ended up in the hospital this week! He's had this throat infection come and go for a month--swollen tonsils, the works. Finally got so bad last week that he had his parents take him to the ER, and they admitted him and pumped him full of painkillers and antibiotics. Poor guy! He's somewhat better now, but anticipates that his tonsils come out when school is out.

I don't think I need to tell you that we have our epilogue to the Listerine Coolstrips story. Get better, Danny!

I have to admit that last week escaped me somehow. I've been pretty good at getting myself into bed at a decent hour for the 5:30 a.m. weekday awakening. Getting used to working out in the afternoon. I'm learning that it makes staying up super-late on the weekends...uh...challenging, but I managed like a trooper. Yep.

Thursday kicked off the Piedmont Jazz Festival, here at the Sawtooth Center. We danced to West End Mambo, who are sounding great as the summer music season kicks off. Martha and Moodswingers were also there, along with some members of the Piedmont Swing Dance Society. It was a better evening than expected for attendance; the organizers didn't even know if they would have the festival this year. Unfortunateley, Saturday's events got rained out.

Friday, Linda and I went to Chapel Hill to relax, eat good food on Franklin Street, and dance to West End Mambo again. (Her partner is in the band, sax and flute, and the rest of the band members are neato fun and stuff.) I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant, because our food was SO GOOD. I had these stuffed poblano peppers and fried cassava that WILL bring me back there for more mmmmmmm. I don't even like peppers, but these poblano things are another story entirely. It makes me happy to develop a taste for food I historically haven't cared for much.

Amy and I were going to Bruce Piephoff and his band on Saturday night, but the rain and cold nipped that in the bud. So we ate good Indian food (Amy's first, which she enjoyed), and went to Leon's for the rest of the evening. Everyone else seemed to have the same idea, and I have to say that we couldn't have made a better decision. With the rain falling outdoors and a bunch of us stuffed in there, it was nice to catch up with one another over good wine and some unusual-smelling shots that the bartender was pouring together.

End-of-year testing is this week. If nothing else, it means silence and the scratching of pencil to computer-form bubble.

Oh, one other thing. I am most diligent about packing my lunch at school. That is some naaaa-sty grub. Bleck.
